Less reconstruction. More review.

The workWithout OpenBooksWith OpenBooks

Keeping the books current

Someone imports, matches, and recategorizes activity before every deadline.

OpenBooks maintains the record as activity arrives and surfaces exceptions.

Finding the evidence

Receipts and approvals live across inboxes, folders, and accounting notes.

Evidence stays attached to the transaction and follows it into each report.

Preparing a filing

A treasurer or preparer reconstructs the form from the books.

OpenBooks prepares the required values and shows exactly what still needs review.

Explaining the numbers

Board, donor, and regulator reports are assembled separately.

Every approved output comes from the same source-linked Financial Record.

For candidates and committees

Complete Campaign OS — one full cycle.

Running for office in Hawaiʻi means doing two jobs at once: reaching voters, and keeping the money reportable to the Campaign Spending Commission. This bundles both, upfront, for the cycle.

$19,999 flat, one cycle

À la carte at list price: more than $52,000. You save about 61%.

Hoaloha
Field organizing, canvassing, texting, Walk Mode, and donation asks for the whole cycle.
OpenBooks
HI CSC filing preparation, the Financial Record, late contribution reports, and bank reconciliation.
Setup Sprint
Voter file records request, import and normalization, first three message templates, one training call, and bank/Stripe connection. $2,499 value, included.
Weekly strategy call
A standing working session with a strategist through the cycle.
Unlimited volunteers
No per-volunteer charge and no cap for the duration of the cycle.
Off-cycle maintenance
Three months after the election at no charge — your data stays live and exportable.

What actually happens after you sign

  1. Day 1 — Setup Sprint starts. We file the voter file records request and begin the import.
  2. Week 1 — Your contacts are loaded and de-duplicated, three message templates are written with you, and your team is trained.
  3. Week 2 — Walk Mode goes live for volunteers. Bank and Stripe are connected, so every contribution lands in the ledger as it arrives.
  4. Every filing period — Contributions are already categorized and attributed, so CSC preparation starts from a current record instead of a reconstruction.
  5. After the election — Three months of maintenance keep the record intact and exportable while you close out the committee.

We have not run a full cycle with a customer yet, so there are no outcome statistics on this page. When there are, they will appear here with their source. We would rather show you the sequence we are accountable for than a number we cannot stand behind.

The guarantee

If Hoaloha does not 3x your team’s outreach volume in 30 days, you get a full refund and you keep everything you built — your contacts, your templates, your ledger, your exports.

Setup Sprint · $2,499 one-time

Start with the data already in.

The slowest part of any first cycle is getting the data in. We do that part for you, once, before the subscription starts. Included at no charge with any annual or cycle prepay.

  • Voter file records request filed on your behalf
  • Voter file import and normalization
  • Existing contact lists ingested and de-duplicated
  • First three message templates written with you
  • One training call for your team
  • Bank and Stripe Connect setup

Before you start

The practical questions.

Is the price per user or per filing?
Neither. It is per organization: $199/month or $1,999/year. Seats, transactions, and routine filing preparation are not metered.
Do I have to replace QuickBooks or my bookkeeper?
No. OpenBooks can work from read-only accounting exports or advisor access today. Your bookkeeper or CPA can remain the reviewer and keep the professional judgment.
What does OpenBooks do that my CPA does not?
OpenBooks does the work between your CPA meetings. It keeps the books current, attaches the evidence, and assembles a ready-for-CPA-review artifact so your CPA spends the engagement on judgment instead of reconstruction. It does not replace your CPA, and it does not give tax advice.
What is the Complete Campaign OS bundle?
One flat $19,999 for a full election cycle. It bundles Hoaloha field organizing, OpenBooks compliance, the $2,499 Setup Sprint, a weekly strategy call, unlimited volunteers, and three months of post-election maintenance. Bought separately at list price these come to more than $52,000.
What are the Hoaloha tiers, and how do volunteer caps work?
Hoaloha starts with a free Starter plan: one House district, 25 volunteers, and 500 contacts, capped rather than time-limited so it does not expire. Paid plans are Standard $499/month, Pro $999/month, and Concierge $2,999/month. Standard includes 100 volunteers and adds $99/month per additional 50. Pro includes 500 and adds $149/month per additional 100. Concierge is unlimited. Volunteers themselves are always free — the cap governs how many the organization can have on a plan, never whether a volunteer can use the app.
Is there a guarantee?
On the Complete Campaign OS bundle, yes: if Hoaloha does not 3x your team’s outreach volume in 30 days, you get a full refund and you keep everything you built. The standalone OpenBooks subscription is month-to-month with 30 days’ cancellation notice instead.
Do you process our donations or hold our money?
No. We never hold, custody, or move your funds. Donation processing runs through your own Stripe account, which you own and control. OpenBooks reads the resulting activity so contributions are categorized, attributed, and carried into your HI CSC filing preparation.
What happens if we leave?
Give 30 days’ notice. You can export the ledger and supporting data in portable formats, and you control whether a published Financial Record stays live.
